Maintaining the proper standard of Emergency Lighting and Exit Signs in your business premises is key to remain compliant with the Australian Workplace Safety Standards. During a crisis or emergency, providing a clear path will ensure you and your customers are directed to the right place.

All business premises should have their emergency lighting and exit signs inspected at least once a year according to the Australian Standard AS 2293.2. It is vital that trained individual personnel perform the inspection so that defective lights can be repaired immediately.
Keeping the emergency lighting and exit signs in good condition is a requirement of the state and federal governments. While following the standard protocol, there are rules to follow to ensure the equipment is functioning properly.
It is extremely important to have emergency lights and exit signs during evacuation events such as fires, especially if the electricity is out. The business or individuals liable for workplace safety may face penalties if they fail to comply with Australia’s emergency lighting and exit sign standards.
There is no need to wait until compliance is too late. With Asset Test and Tag, we can take this burden off of your shoulders by doing all testing and tagging required to ensure your business is complying with all safety regulations.
Emergency lighting testing and inspection, along with exit signs, need to be conducted at six-monthly intervals per standards detailed in AS 2293.2. A discharge duration test and inspection is conducted to determine which fittings require care and maintenance.
For buildings duration of the discharge test is 90 minutes, as defined by Section 2 of the Standard. The best way to ensure your system operates at full potential is by performing a formal discharge test done by a technician and not doing it yourself.
It is important that your exit and emergency lighting tested and replaced by a professional.
