Electrical equipment failures can have a major impact on the day-to-day running of any organisation. A faulty piece of electrical equipment can cause major disruption and potentially lead to serious injury or fatality. The risk of not remaining compliant is significant, yet day in day out we see small businesses deciding to run the gauntlet and not test. We see this as reckless from a health and safety standpoint, but also from a business continuity stand point. If you defer your test and tag in order to save budget, the impact of either an accident or an audit will far outweigh any benefits.
Ensuring that your entire place of business is using properly functioning electrical equipment is a necessity, not a pleasant one to deal with, but a necessary one nonetheless.
Whether maintaining compliance needs to be disruptive and wasteful is entirely up to you. If you chase the lowest price, then you often get what you pay for, where your disruption level will likely increase. We may not be the cheapest, but we are and always have been one of the least disruptive services in Adelaide!
Electrical compliance is a legal requirement for most businesses in South Australia, and not something you can afford to overlook.
If you’re thinking that this might not apply to your business, stop and consider that legislators designed electrical compliance to help protect you and the people who work in your business. By making sure that all installed equipment has been deemed safe for use, it protects other people who are accessing your property from potential harm.

We also test and tag your fixed RCD’s (safety switches) such as those installed in your switchboards or sometimes on a PowerPoint. Our tester applies a test fault to the RCD and measure the time in milliseconds it takes to trip the RCD
We also can do minor repairs to make an appliance safe such as replacing a lead on a hand tool, replacing a plug or socket on a lead. We also carry a variety of common spares so we can often replace a faulty item so the impact on the business is minimized.
If we find unsafe or dangerous condition we cannot repair the item has a ‘Danger Do Not Use’ Tag applied to the lead and the responsible person is notified of the item and fault.
Once we finish carrying out the inspection, we’ll be able to provide you with a detailed report of our findings.
Normally we will be able to provide you with an estimate of how long we will be on site when we book in the service.
As every business is unique, there is no one answer for this question.
Testing and tagging each piece of equipment takes only a few minutes, a workstation with a computer, two monitors and a printer make take 10 – 15 minutes, however every situation is different, so this can only be used as a guide.
Once we’ve finished all testing and remediation, things are put back where we found them. Computers and Printers are started to make sure they are ready for use.
It’s important that your business complies with the Standard, which stipulate that inspection of the portable electrical equipment and fixed RCD’s as per the testing period tabe , you can see our resource here.

Generally it will only take a few minutes to test and tag each piece of equipment, meaning that to test and tag a computer workstation in an office will take about the same time as it will take for a tea break. We will work with you to minimise disruptions to the work routine.
We have the ability of taking Visa or MasterCard payments on the day. Our preferred method of payment is from Electronic Funds Transfers.
AS 3760 enables persons responsible for the safety of electrical equipment in the workplace to instigate an inspection and testing programme to achieve that aim. It also enables persons undertaking the inspection and testing to carry out the task in a safe and effective manner.
This standard defines the In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
SafeWork SA refer to this Standard for the testing of electrical equipment in workplace.
It defines the minimum inspection and testing intervals. Click on the ‘Test Period’ link at the bottom of this page for more information.
If any electrical equipment we test is found to be faulty we tag it with a ‘Failed’ tag.
At the conclusion of the testing the responsible person in the workplace will be require to sign a form acknowledging the failed equipment will be taken out of service. It will be then up to this person to decide whether the faulty item is to be repaired or discarded.
Some minor repairs can be provided by Asset Test and Tag on site to enable the faulty item to be retested and put back into service.
The Australian Standard states that a licenced electrician, or a competent person who has the knowledge and training to undertake the testing.
Specialised equipment such as a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) would be needed as this is designed to do the testing efficiently with a focus on operator safety while carrying out the tests.
We use state of the art portable ‘Seaward Systems’ each consists of a Seaward Elite Tester (which performs the test and store the data) and a Zebra tag printer.
The data from the testing is downloaded to our software which in turn provides you with detailed test results.
A Residual Current Device (RCD) is a safety device that is used to provide additional protection to the operator of hand tools.
Modern switchboards are fitted with fixed RCD’s, they can also be built into power points or be a portable unit which plugs into a power point.
Usually earthed or ‘Class I’ equipment has lots of exposed metal which is why it requires earthing.
Many modern hand tools and appliances are double insulated which means they do not have an earth, they are generally identified by the words ‘Class II’
The testing procedure is different depending upon if it is earthed or double insulated.
We have a minimum charge of $120 (plus GST) which will generally enable us to service a small office of say 2 people.
Our charges are based on the number and type of tests that are done. As the scope of the job grows generally the charges reduce when there is a high quantity of tests involved.
After discussing your needs we may decide to do a site inspection prior to providing the quote, this way we get the opportunity to see if there is any additional work in providing the service – this way there are no surprises for either party.
When the service is provided in a remote location we reserve to right to charge a surcharge.
Generally, we are booked up to a month in advance, depending upon the scope of the service we may be able to slip your job into our schedule within the month.
